CSR PROJECT AT PANKULAMA, MORAWEWA-17-08-2019

Our main CSR project in 2019 was held at Pankulama, Morawewa in the Trincomalee District. Based on information received that many villages in this area (formerly categorised as "border villages" during the conflict) were in dire need of basic facilities and medical assistance, we contacted the military and were ably assisted by Lt Col Miranjan De Silva, Commanding Officer of 6th Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps who took it upon himself to help us in this endeavour fully. It must me mentioned that without the unstinted support of Colonel Miranjan and his officers of the 6th Regiment, this project may not have been a reality.

The Committee collected Rs 555,000.00 through donations from the group and also well- wishers. Many others contributed in kind and also by donating many needed items.

We were able to donate 100 x dry ration packs (each costing approx. Rs 5000.00) to selected villagers living in Lot 6 of Pankulama, Items of furniture, books and stationery to the two schools (Sinhala and Tamil) whilst the HelpAge team conducted an eye camp for villagers - thanks to Samantha Liyanawaduge who heads HelpAge in Sri Lanka.

The Army arranged a band to entertain the villagers and needless to say everyone had a wonderful time. All in all, this project was a major success.
